Buying Used Gym Equipment
Advertisements:
It's unfortunate really. So many well meaning people who desire to make a positive change in their lives by outfitting their home with a gym equipment think they need to buy new instead of used gym equipment. That's just not the case whatsoever. There is an entire industry around second hand used commercial fitness equipment.
You should be careful however, as there are some pitfalls you will certainly want to avoid when navigating the waters of this used gym market. Let's discuss many of the things you should be aware of, and what to look for when buying used.
Does The Company Have a Physical Location?
This is an often overlooked piece of information casual gym equipment shoppers don't take note of. There are many online companies these days who don't have a physical location, and while they may be perfectly legitimate, you would be better off buying from a company with a sizable warehouse in the neighborhood of 15,000 square feet. Why? Because they can afford deeply discounted commercial equipment for pennies on the dollar, more likely leading to a better deal for you as their customer. Of course this depends on their markup, but generally companies with large spaces are more reputable and reliable.
Is The Equipment Just Used or Refurbished?
This one's a biggie. Make sure the used gym equipment you buy is refurbished or improved in some way by the seller. Reputable used fitness equipment companies often repaint or refinish and touch up their resale equipment, which is obviously preferable compared to ones that just take in used stuff and then put a price tag on it. They'll likely replace any worn out parts, such as belts, missing parts, or buttons as well.
We encourage anyone interested in personal fitness who wants to save significant cash to buy used exercise equipment. You can get much more bang for your buck and acquire commercial grade fitness equipment for less than the price of buying new equipment (that will most likely break down inside of one year) sold by the infomercials.
