Discount Fitness Equipment Buying Tricks

Advertisements:

With the economy struggling the way it has been the last few years, everyone is wanting to keep a tighter hold on their funds, and purchasing discount fitness equipment is an excellent way to do just that. You've seen all the ads and infomercials hawking off all this get into shape "stuff", but new equipment simply costs too much, and most people don't want to fork out that much. And the free alternative of just going for a run or bike ride just isn't an option either since it takes much more of your time and during the winter it's just not possible to do outdoor exercise activities.

Fortunately, there are several ingenious ways to get your hands on the same fitness equipment you see on the infomercials (or even higher grade commercial gym equipment) at a fraction of the cost. So without wasting anymore time, lets get right to it:

Gyms That Are Out of Business or Renovating

This is primarily for those of you that live in major metropolitan areas with lots of gyms, but nonetheless an excellent method for the majority. Oftentimes, gyms that are upgrading, renovating, or going out of business altogether are looking to unload some of their equipment. If they can't, they'll simply discard it, which of course is a complete waste. After all, gyms regularly maintain their equipment, much more than an owner would if you were buying used, so the condition is better than average for being used.

Gym Equipment Wanted Ads

Another excellent idea is to place wanted ads online or your local paper. Or you can look online at popular auction sites like Ebay. Just make sure you do your homework on the equipment and the sellers themselves if you go that route.

Local Schools, Colleges and Recreational Centers

Many times, you won't even have to look for equipment for sale, they'll be available through various organizations such as, schools, colleges, and recreational centers. They often have several pieces of gym equipment that they consider trash, but would be perfectly acceptable to the average person. Saving these facilities from transportation, storage, or other costs they'd normally encounter by taking it off their hands is a win/win deal.

One final note - before buying discounted fitness equipment, make sure you inspect it thoroughly and test it out a bit before spending any cash. Make sure equipment with lots of moving parts are properly balanced and smooth working. Verifying the equipment is in proper working condition should be your main priority initially, not price.
